The Virtual Dementia Tour
The VDT is a Dementia simulation tool created for persons seeking to understand the physical and mental challenges of those with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
The VDT is a scientifically proven method designed to build sensitivity and awareness in individuals caring for those with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
While Dementia is often unbearable for both family and the loved one living with it, this training gives hope by providing care givers with the tools necessary to get through these difficult times.
It teaches care givers how to create a positive environment for a loved one by simulating their experience. Only by walking in their shoes, albeit briefly, can we develop an eye toward what would make us more comfortable if we were the one with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
Heightening our level of sensitivity will allow us to better cope with some of the difficult behaviors exhibited by those with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
Ann LaReau, Alzheimer’s Educator, became certified to present the VDT training program in June of 2011 by P.K. Belville, MS, the program’s author and renowned gerontologist.
The training is not available to persons who simply wish to enhance their training profile, but only to individual care givers and professional care providers who work to increase the effectiveness of and enhance the quality of life of those dealing with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
